Algeria

Algeria is a country next to Morocco and Libya. This is yet another country I really didn’t know a lot about. I am finding that I really don’t know a lot about most countries. In fact I only know a little about a handful of countries.

Arabic is spoken there. I think that it is an interesting language. It, like many other languages, would be very hard for me to learn. Just like English, there are differences depending on what country or even region you are in.

While doing my research on Algeria I found out that I had heard about it a little on the news years ago. They were in a civil war until 2007. Now it looks like a mostly peaceful country. That being said, it isn’t a place I would let my guard down.

Tassili N'Ajjer National Park

The landscape is vastly different depending on the region you are in. There is the Coastal area, the mountain area and the Sahara Desert. How I spent most of my life believing that the Sahara Desert was only in Egypt, I do not know.  In fact it is in ten different countries! I do believe the Kansas school system has failed me.  Well it could be that I was just a really bad student, but I chose to believe the latter.

Merguez

Algerian food looks very diverse and frankly delicious! I would love to try Tagine, which is a slow cooked stew with lamb and vegetables, flavored with spices and preserved lemons. I would also love to try Merguez, a beef or lamb sausage that is grilled on an open fire.  I can not forget dessert, Griwech is a deep fried cookie that is then drizzled with orange honey.

GHOUFI BALCONIES

I really didn’t know a lot about this county when I started my research. But now I can say I have a bucket list of places I want to visit!

 My bucket list for Algeria

  1. Tassili N'Ajjer National Park
  2. Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania
  3. Ghoufi Balconies
  4. Djemila (Roman ruins)
  5. Algerian Alps
  6. Hoggar Mountains
  7. Gouraya National Park
  8. I want to take a desert safari
  9. Go on a Camel ride in the Sahara Desert
  10. Try some Algerian food
