Arizona

     Arizona is at the very top of my list of places I want to visit. I have been there once but it was just to drive through one small corner. I have been dreaming of seeing the Grand Canyon most of my life. Now I know it is probably over rated and I may be a little disappointed but I don’t care. It is my number one choice of places I want to go.

     Here are a few fun facts for you. Arizona is the 48th state. The saguaro cactus, which lives only in the Sonoran Desert, is the state’s most recognizable plant and can grow up to 65 feet high. Arizona has the most  national monuments out of all the states.  Here is the best one, you can't feed garbage to pigs without a permit in Arizona. 

    Route 66 runs through Arizona. I have enjoyed all the places we have been able to go to on this highway. We went to Missouri to a funny little place called Uranus Fudge Factory. In Kansas we went to Baxter Springs Route 66 Visitors Center where everyone signs the walls and floor. Then in Oklahoma we went to Totem Pole Park.  All that to say I can wait to see what they have in Arizona. Wigwam Motel is one of the places on route 66, I really want to see and with luck get to stay at.


         There are 25 national parks, 6 national forests and 30 State parks. I want to see them all, but  it would take a year or more to really explore them all.

       Arizona's food is a lot like New Mexico's food. Southwest cuisine has a lot of chili peppers, slow cooked meats and ice cold drinks. One of the things I want to try is a prickly pear ice cream. Navajo tacos are made with fry bread, pento beans, and green chili sauce. They look really good. I read that the Chimichangas were first made in Arizona, so those are a must try as well. Sonoran hot dogs are a Mexican-inspired dish, consisting of a bacon-wrapped hot dog served on a bolillo bun. I mean anything with bacon has to be worth a try.
